United Daily: Two tigers: Ma Ying-jeou and Chen Shui-bian

December 19th, 2009  |  Published in Politics

The detained Chen Shui-bian said from prison that he and Ma Ying-jeou were both born in the Year of the Tiger and that the conflict between the two “tigers” would destabilize the whole nation.

As a matter of fact, Ma and Chen in many aspects represent two extremes — while Chen is among the few who do not follow regulations or respect discipline, Ma is a rare case who is confined by regulations and discipline.

Judging the two from their perceptions of family values and management of money, Chen has shown an aggressive, plundering and forward nature, while Ma can be characterized as conservative, reserved, and even timid.

Chen’s impudent personality has eventually led to disaster, but Ma’s overcautiousness has also been faulted for self-confinement.
