U.K. language school CES opens its first overseas branch in Taiwan

Taipei, April 30 (CNA) Britain’s private English-learning school Center of English Studies (CES) on Thursday opened its first branch outside England and Ireland in Taipei, aiming to help Taiwanese students improve their English skills so they can get into schools abroad.

The branch was opened in collaboration with the local education consultant United Kingdom Education Advisory Service (UKEAS) , which has been working with the CES in sending Taiwanese students to study at CES schools in England and Ireland.

The Taipei CES School will offer specialized training for students who plan to take the U.K. English proficiency tests for foreign students – IELTS. Scoring high on the test is necessary if students want to study in the U.K. The School will also provide learning and consultancy services on British education to Taiwanese students.

Justin Quinn, managing director of CES, said at an opening ceremony that he believed the Taipei CES School will provide the same high level of standards and commitment to quality in English language learning, as it has done in England and Ireland over the past 30 years.

“The new school has been fitted out with highest quality facilities to provide an excellent learning environment. We employ excellent and well qualified teachers with many years experience of teaching IELTS, ” Quinn said. “We are sure the new Taipei school will uphold these standards and set a new level for quality IELTS.”

David Campbell, director of the Taipei-based British Trade & Cultural Office, said at the same occasion that the opening of the first private British-Irish based language school in Taiwan showed the confidence that CES and UKEAS have in Taiwan’s market potential.

“We believe that the longstanding cooperation between CES and UKEAS and this new joint venture specialist school will enjoy great success here and be of huge benefits to English language learners in Taiwan,”Campbell said.

The joint venture of CES and UKEAS also serves as a good example for great partnership between Taiwan and the U.K., Campbell added.

There are currently 15,000 Taiwanese students studying in the U.K., Campbell said.

The School will help more and more Taiwanese students fulfill their dreams of studying abroad, Campbell said, adding that he hoped more students will go to the U.K. for short courses, as starting March 3 Taiwanese citizens can enjoy visa-free entry to the U.K. for maximum stays of up to six months.

Established in 1976, CES is one of the leading English language schools in Europe. It is accredited by the British Council in England.
