To tap the emerging market for e-book readers, over 200 Taiwanese suppliers of digital contents, hardware and software in the industry of e-book readers have formed the “e-Reading Industry Promotion Alliance” on December 11, in an effort to jointly cash in on the forthcoming sales boom of the industry.

The alliance effectively integrates efforts of upstream, midstream and downstream companies in the line, with Taipei Computer Association`s (TAC) honorable chairman C.H. Ho and E-Ten’s president Simon Hwang elected as chairman and vice chairman, respectively, and will help to form an integrated supply chain of e-book readers on the island.

Such TAC members as Asustek Computer Corp., Delta Electronics Inc., Quanta Computer Inc., SiPix IMD Technology, Compal Electronics Inc., and Inventec Corp., BenQ Corp., as well as Taiwan’s large-sized telecom companies, including Chunghwa Telecom Co., Vibo Telecom Inc., Far Eastone Telecommunications Co., Ltd., have joined the alliance.

Huang said that the alliance will invite Barnes & Nobel, Google and China’s largest e-book reader brand Hanwang to Taiwan in June 2010, so as to push for cooperation between these international large-sized e-book reader brands and Taiwanese manufacturers.

Noteworthy is that BenQ is planning to launch its first own-brand e-book reader, nReader, for sale in Taiwan by the end of January 2010. With more Taiwanese companies dedicated to the emerging products, Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs has actively bolstered development of the industry and assisted makers to explore the lucrative market, aiming for a total production value of over NT$100 billion (US$3.076 billion at US$1: NT$32.5) for the industry in 2013.
