President arrives in Guatemala for three-day visit
Guatemala City, May 29 (CNA) Republic of China President Ma Ying-jeou arrived in Guatemala Friday from Belize on the second leg of his 10-day, three-country diplomatic visit to Central America.
Shortly after his arrival in Guatemala City, Ma held bilateral talks with Guatemala President Alvaro Colom Caballeros on matters of mutual concern. The two leaders then signed a joint statement, reaffirming their commitment to bilateral cooperation.
Traveling at the head of a 158-member delegation, Ma began his tour Tuesday in Belize.
Meanwhile, first lady Chow Mei-ching, who is accompanying Ma on the diplomatic tour, entertained local socially disadvantaged children by hosting a musical performance by Taiwan’s famous Ju Percussion Group at the National Theater.
As this is the first time that Chow has traveled with Ma on an overseas presidential visit, her every move has been dutifully recorded by Taiwanese reporters since she boarded the flight from Taiwan.
Ma is scheduled to visit El Salvador June 1 to attend the inauguration of President-elect Mauricio Funes slated for that same day. He will return to Taiwan June 4 after an overnight transit stop in Seattle, United States. (By Huang Juei-hung and Elizabeth Hsu)
