Taipei, July 31 (CNA) The National Museum of History (NMH) will launch a new series of exhibitions in August, ranging from displays of old jades and seal carvings to a special exhibition on the birds that inhabit the Kenting National Park and the impact upon them of climate change.
Taiwanese antique collectors and jewelry creators Li Shau-min and Yin Yu will hold a July 31-Aug. 30 gem and jewelry exhibition titled Old Jades, New inventions: An Exhibition of Min and Yu Creations, ” according to the latest newsletter from the NMH.
Inspired by the ancient Chinese book titled Shi Jing, which is a collection of Chinese poems, Li’s and Yin’s works use the technique of Chinese knots to incorporate ancients jades with agate, lazurite, beeswax, gilt and kingfisher blue into fine jewelry, the newsletter said.
The museum will also hold an exhibition titled “The Art of Seal Carving from Hung Mien Chen” and a historic document exhibition titled “The Birth of New Taiwan,” which will run Aug. 14-Sept. 27 and Aug. 26-Sept. 27, respectively.
In addition, a show titled “Global Warming from the Artist’s Perspective: A Special Exhibition of the Birds of Kenting ” will take place Aug. 25-Sept. 27 that will feature a display of photographs, paintings, sculptures, drawings and books to showcase the birds that live in the Kenting National Park at the southernmost tip of Taiwan.
Noting that changes in bird ecology are a benchmark for global environmental changes, artists have an obligation to present the seriousness of the problem and express their concerns for the issue through the exhibition of their works on the subject, according to the newsletter.
“The exhibition is aimed at creating a higher standard of ecology ethics that can serve as a basis for human beings to reflect on their responsibilities for the tens of thousands of species on Earth, ” the NMH said in the newsletter. (By Rachel Chan)
