Ireland reaches out to Taiwanese tourists through Web page

London, Dec. 24 (CNA) Tourism Ireland, the Irish government’s main tourism promoter, opened a Taiwan page on its Web site recently to cater to Taiwanese tourists and offer them information on traveling and studying there.

The new Web page, found on Tourism Ireland’s official Web site at www.discoverireland.com, offers personalized itinerary planning and a rundown of Ireland’s main travel destinations and study programs.

The new page, presented in traditional Chinese characters, reflects the importance Tourism Ireland attaches to Taiwan’s tourism and overseas study market, said Taiwan’s Representative to Ireland Lee Nan-yang, who touted the Web page’s varied and detailed contents.

Ireland’s push to cater to Taiwanese tourists follows its decision earlier in the year to give Republic of China (Taiwan) passport holders visa-free treatment for visits related to tourism, business and studying.

The visa-free treatment took effect July 1 and allows Taiwan citizens to stay in Ireland for up to 90 days without a visa. (By Jennifer Huang and Elizabeth Hsu)
