Harvatek to supply automotive LEDs to Osram in 2009

Harvatek Inc., a leading manufacturer of surface-mounted chip LEDs in Taiwan, recently said it would start an automotive-LED partnership with Osram in 2009 after two years of effort.

Company chairman Billy Wang pointed out that Osram would place trial-orders with Harvatek in 2009, showing confirmation from the globally-leading Osram though initial orders would be small.

Wang visited Osram CEO Ruediger Muller in November to win such supply opportunity for automotive LEDs. The Osram chairman says that the company is very proud of its LED products and does not causally place contract orders. Harvatek, however, has proven itself by being QS 9000 and TS16949 certified.

According to Wang, his company would begin small-batch shipments of auto-interior LEDs to Osram in 2009. Osram has been a leading player in the automotive LED market and is the exclusive supplier of headlight LEDs for a few Audi and Opel models.

The key turning point in Osram’s attitude was, according to Wang, that the German lighting maker deemed Harvatek has sufficient production capacity and such partnership would be glitch-free.
